Tiny Beautiful Things by Cheryl Strayed: Hannah and Cailin’s Book Club

“Let yourself be gutted. Let it open you. Start here.”

It’s pretty much impossible to do this book justice in a video description. Tiny Beautiful Things: Advice on Love and Life from Dear Sugar by Cheryl Strayed is a collection of brilliant letters written in response to people seeking advice anonymously from a columnist known as Sugar. The column, as you might have guessed, is called Dear Sugar, and its home is the online literary magazine The Rumpus (www.therumpus.net). Sugar covers a range of topics that you would expect from any advice column – broadly, life and love – but her style and honesty is unlike anything you will ever read. She strips her readers down by addressing every tiny piece of their problem, validating its ache and importance, and leaving the reader with nothing but the inspiration they need to put the pieces back together themselves. Her words are pure power. As soon as you read the book, you’ll know exactly what we’re talking about.
